Jhasi ki Rani laxmibai Review

THE STORY
The film is based on one of the fiercest freedom fightors Maharani Laxmibai. She is married to the aged King Gangadhar rao ( Milind Gunaji). At the age of 16, she delivers a child which dies after 11 months. Then they adopt a boy whose name is Damodar rao. She became a widow at the age of 19. She goes against the Britishers and fights with them till she dies on the battlefield.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS
The subject of such films needs a lavish budget but Rajesh Mittal has cleverly made it with a shoe-string budget like all his films are and he has managed to make it a fairly gripping action and an emotional film with patriotic spirits. The film gives a true documentation alongwith some entertainment like Horse riding and sword fighting scenes.

TRADE ANALYSIS
The role of Rani laxmibai is played by a newcomer Vandana Sen Kashish and she is excellent. Milind Gunaji also is effective .Surendra Pal as the Rajguru is good. Kiran Kumar proves his worth in a song.Prakash sagar,Pappu Polyester,Rishabh Raj, Mala Devika Singh,Kavita Singh,Rani Shetty,Sanjay Verma,Bharat Kapoor,Arun Mathur,Master Amaan,Anil Dhawan, rakesh pandey and Mohan Joshi are fair. Musicxally, there are too many songs . Two songs Ishq Hai Jawan' and 'Rakh Le Laaj Tu Mera Devaa' are the pick of the lot. The item number does not have a proper situation. The title song is too long ( 12 minutes) which can be trimmed. Production and technical values are so so. Editing is loose. Publicity is poor.

At the box-office, JHANSI KI RANI LAXMIBAI does not have the merits to bring the paying audiences to the cinema halls and also the cast does not boast of big names to make it worthy of a viewing. Tax-exemption can help the film to get some shares from the smaller single screen cinemas in the interiors.
